What does a safer community look like in practice?

In Cahul, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Police Inspectorate, police inspectorates from across the Southern Region, experts, and international partners examined a model that transforms existing video surveillance systems into tools for prevention and early response.

The event held on 23 March 2026 brought together key stakeholders from the public safety sector, including distinguished guests, to whom we extend our sincere appreciation for their participation, engagement, and valuable contribution to strengthening dialogue and interinstitutional cooperation.

The model presented, piloted at the Cahul Police Inspectorate, integrates intelligent automatic alert technologies to:

• support faster police response;
• help prevent incidents;
• provide a practical model with strong potential for replication in other communities.

The discussions highlighted that real impact is achieved when technology is integrated into operational processes, supported through training, and used responsibly.

The practical component was demonstrated during a visit to the dispatch centre of the Cahul Police Inspectorate, where participants observed the system operating under real-life conditions.

Within the framework of the BREN II Programme, funded by UK International Development with the support of IWPR, the project was implemented and organized by the NGO "Pas cu Pas South Region" under the leadership of Project Manager Jessica Veliciug. The event was moderated by Stella Bădin, Project Coordinator and architect of the Smart Community Safety Model.

Cahul is thus becoming a benchmark for modern community safety solutions in the Republic of Moldova.
